Malanje - The Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, reaffirmed on Saturday the Government's commitment to increasing the production of consumer goods, with a view to reducing imports and accelerating food security in Angola.

José de Lima Massano made the statement at the inauguration of the first phase of the poultry project of the Ministry of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, installed in the commune of Quizenga, municipality of Cacuso, Malanje province.

He specified that the country is on a situation that requires an increase in production capacity and recalled that this year followed a set of initiatives that came from previous years, leading to the reduction of food imports.

“The Government has launched new financial solutions to increase production capacity at various levels, which will ensure self-sufficiency, control and price stability,” he said, adding that as long as there is dependence on imports, external factors will continue to be decisive for the national economy, hence the need to improve domestic production.

The Minister of State highlighted the existence of many initiatives in the productive sector, with emphasis on rice production, as there is still a deficit in this segment, at a time when the country imports about 600,000 tons of the cereal per year, compared to the 40,000 produced domestically, in addition to sugar, whose domestic production capacity meets only 40 percent of the needs of Angolans.

In the poultry sector, according to José de Lima Massano, dependence is also high, judging by the fact that the country imports 300,000 tons annually and produces only 22,000, which is why he encouraged the intervention of the private sector in increasing food production, given the conditions created by the Executive to attract foreign and national investors.  for a more dynamic economy.

Regarding the poultry project of the Ministry of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, he considered it an ambitious initiative, as it will also contribute to the generation of more jobs and promotion of the socio-economic development of families.

He challenged Jampur Group, a partner of the Ministry of National Defense in the implementation of the project, to invest in rice production at the regional level, with a view to meeting the deficit that the country is experiencing.

The poultry project now opened includes 140 warehouses, of which 60 for the province of Malanje and 80 for Cuanza Norte, each with five thousand chicks, and a slaughterhouse and is expected to produce seven million chickens/year in the provinces of Malanje and Cuanza Norte, starting in March 2024.
