Luanda - Angola exported around 103.1 million barrels of crude oil in the fourth quarter of 2023, valued at US$8.63 billion, said Wednesday in the Province of Luanda the secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso.

Speaking at the act for the presentation of the crude oil market performance in the fourth quarter of last year, the official emphasized that China was the main destination for Angolan crude oil exports with 52,82%, followed by Spain with 8,49%, then Netherlands (6,63%) and India (6,49%).

José Barroso said that the preliminary figures for 2023 show a total of 386.42 million barrels of crude oil exported, a weighted average price of USD 81,3 a barrel of crude (BBL), which corresponds to a gross value of approximately 31.4 billion dollars, with China being the main destination for the year's exports, with around 57%.

According to him, the price of Brent on the international market has been on a downward trend, influenced by various factors, some of which have had a negative impact and others which have contributed to the price remaining stable.

He explained that, among the various factors, there is an extension of the production cuts set by Serbia and Russia until the end of 2023, the armed conflicts between Israel and Hamas, as well as between Russia and Ukraine, which have actually contributed to the stabilisation of the international oil market price.

In the gas sector, the secretary of State said that exports in the fourth quarter were over 1 million metric tonnes, 72.49% of which was Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

He emphasised that the value exported corresponds to a gross income of approximately USD 650.67 million.

The official said that the gas exports made represent a decrease of around 16.62% compared to the previous quarter, as a result of the increase in gas prices on the international market.

According to him, LNG accounted for around 78 per cent of the volume exported.

José Barroso revealed that in 2023, LNG was mainly exported to India, accounting for around 54.48% of the total gas exported.
