Luanda - The National Police arrested three national citizens last Thursday for allegedly stealing 100 tons of railway crossbars from Caminhos-de-Ferro de Luanda (CFL) and fraudulently trying to sell them to Fabrimetal - a steel company under Angolan law, which denounced the fact to the authorities.

The attempt to sell the materials was initially frustrated by the inspection of that factory, which immediately informed the National Police and the said railway company, according to its head of operations, José Fernandes, noting that it was easy to detect the irregularity as there was only a valid contract with CFL for that purpose.

He explained that when the documents to be assessed were requested, the team immediately noticed that they were fake, as those responsible for the cargo were not presenting the supply contract with Fabrimetal and were trying to sell it to intermediaries which, similarly, are subject to inspection.

"I saw a heavy, open-box vehicle coming into our plant with a load covered by a canvas, which caught the attention of the inspection. Once the cover was removed, immediately two rails fell to the ground, which led us to verify the origin and legality of the goods", reported Fabrimetal’s head of operations.
