Angola: Impact of Covid-19 on diamond production

Luanda - Angola’s Diamond Company “Endiama” has predicted, until the end of the current year, a production of eight million carats of the stone, contrary to the planned 10 million.

The decrease in production owed to Covid-19 pandemic.

For next year, if the pandemic is eradicated, the company foresees a production of 11 million carats.

The figure that might increase to 14 millions by 2022, under the National Development Programme.

Speaking to press, the representative of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Mankenda Ambroise, explained that until 2021 the country will gain Angola’s Diamond Stock and the Diamond Development Hub of Saurimo (Lunda Sul).

Ambroise was speaking at webinar, entitled “The new global center for the diamond to link the Angola business with the international diamond trade opportunity through Dubai”.

He said that the Stock is mainly intended to providing a platform that puts the huge flow of diamonds under the same institution.

Citing the statistics in recent years, the official spoke of  a considerable amount of national diamonds, standing at 90 percent, which had been exported to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

At the event, Mankenda Ambroise invited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) companies to join the initiative and become members, accordingly with the requirements.

The initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Angola - UAE, aimed to attract investors, promote and publicise business opportunities, investments existing in the diamond (mining) market in Angola, in view of the potential in the different branches of the national economy.
