Luanda – Angola Ombudswoman, Florbela Araújo, appealed Monday to the workers of the national airlines "TAAG" to remain calm and confident in the ongoing restructuring process aimed at getting the company out of the difficult financial situation.

The Angolan Ombuds's Office received some complaints from citizens about several situations related to the rights of service users and groups of TAAG workers, who complain about possible layoffs and lack of freedom for trade unions.

As regards the safeguarding of rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens and workers of TAAG, the Ombudsman held a clarification meeting with the TAAG Board of Directors.

"We are satisfied with the explanations of the Board of Directors, so we appeal to the workers to remain calm and serene, because this process of transformation aims to take TAAG out of the abyss in which it finds itself". the ombudswoman clarified.

According to the explanations received, Florbela Araújo understands that some employees who claim early layoff are not permanent employees, while others are already at retirement’s age and feel unhappy with the position of the board.

The TAAG CEO, Ana Major, on her turn, said that it was a good and clarifying conversation about some issues that concern the workers and the common citizen, adding that there are no reasons to talk about layoffs, since this is still premature, adding that the board is working on the process.
