Angola/India trade estimated at US$3 billion

Talatona - Trade between Angola and India during 2021-2022 period is estimated at a total of 1.5 trillion kwanzas (equivalent to 3 billion US dollars), the India ambassador to Angola, Pratibha Parkar said in Luanda.

 Speaking at the opening ceremony to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the  Promulgation of India Constitution marked on January 26, Parkar explained that the amounts mentioned were linked to the import and export of various products.

According to the ambassador, India is Angola's third biggest trading partner, sharing about 10 percent of the African country's foreign trade.

In terms of political relations, the Indian diplomat said that they cooperate in the sectors of defence, health, trade, mining and professional training.

The Indian diplomat also highlighted the partnership between the two countries in the training  sector, underlining that the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), provides every year a short-term training courses for national-government officials, training programmes in different areas such as English language, auditing and finance, banking, technology, amongst others.

Also based on the training protocol, the diplomat explained that 30 Angolan students have been sent to India this year, where they will study in renowned Indian universities, under the scope of the scholarship programme.

The ambassador also acknowledged the active support of the Angolan government in promoting regional peace, conflict resolution, security and stability in the central region of Africa.

"The post-Covid era, at a time of uncertainty and economic recovery, the India-Angola partnership will be a significant stabilising factor for the economies of both countries," the diplomat said.

India established diplomatic relations with Angola in 1985, since then has maintained extremely cordial relations. The economies of both countries complement each other.

 Angola is rich in hydrocarbons and mineral resources, while India is rich in human and financial capital as well as having low-cost technical expertise.

India commemorates the promulgation of the Constitution on January 26.
