Luanda – The European Union said that Angola is on a positive trend in the field of  non-oil exports, estimated at around 4%, as a result of the economy's diversification process.

The praised is based on report of the European Union (EU) Training Programme, aimed at supporting trade and the diversification of the Angolan economy.

The Joint European Union - United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) training programme, dubbed "Train for Trade II", underway in the country since 2017, considered macroeconomic indicators encouraging.

However it is recommended that Angola needs to redouble its efforts to expand the sustainable diversification of the economy and exports, for the structural transformation of the country's economy.

These results were presented Wednesday in Luanda, during the IV Meeting of the Steering Committee of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which, among others, reiterates the need to maintain this programme beyond 2023.

Data show that this specialised technical training programme, which was due to end in June, was extended to December of the current year. Since its inception, the programme has trained 1452 civil servants and 904 from the private sector from 689 organisations.

On the occasion, the head of European Union cooperation in Angola, Enrico Strampeli, said that support for the trade sector in Angola has global funding of 10 million euros.

“The intention of the project, which is being successful, is to create technical skills to facilitate non-oil production and exports, as part of  diversification that Angola has been carrying out”, argued the official.

The European diplomat added that his board of directors is studying the renewal of the programme, Train for Trade II, but in an expanded way, where it is expected that, in addition to specialized technical training, it will also have a project financing component.

Strampeli announced that the European Union had approved a package of 30 million euros to finance projects linked to the blue economy, mainly in the fisheries sector.

In turn, the minister of Industry and Commerce, Victor Fernandes, noted  that this programme allowed training more than 2,600 entrepreneurs who boosted their businesses and created new jobs in the areas of commerce.

The government official stressed that the training covered the Commerce sector, at Ministry level, other public bodies, the private sector and all agents in the chain involved in the productive sector, generating technical capacity.
