Porto Amboim - Sinohydro Corporation Limited resumed this Tuesday, in the central Cuanza Sul Province, the total rehabilitation of 855 meters of the bridges of Quicombo in Sumbe Municipality, the bridges of Queve, Salinas, Quiteta and Longa in Porto Amboim Municipality, on national road number 100.
According to the head of department for the conservation and maintenance of bridges of the Angola Roads Institute, Dorivaldo Cândido Augusto, the works will be limited to the guardrails, support systems, treatment of the settlement on the slopes of the bridge and the expansion joints,
The above-mentioned works which were visited by the minister of Public Works, Urbanisation and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, began in November of 2021 and were predicted to be completed in April of 2022, however, due to the lack of payments the works had stopped.
At this moment, the physical execution of the five bridges is 64%.
With the resumption of the works, they are expected to be completed by June of this year.
Speaking to ANGOP, the general director of the construction and supervision company ALFIFER, Álvaro Fernandes, said that “these rehabilitation works that connect, through road number 100, the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Sul and Benguela should be intervened, as soon as possible, because they are emergency works”.
“If these bridges are not rehabilitated they will hinder the circulation of people and goods”, he warned, having confirmed that the works will be limited, among others, to the guardrail, support systems and expansion joints.
On the bridge of the river Longa, the vice-governor of Cuanza Sul for Infrastructure and Technical Services, Heitor Alfredo, expressed the need to reinforce the support system, considering that those passing over the bridge feel the bridge swaying, especially if they are high tonnage trucks.
In the bridge over Longa river, the works carried out were limited to the repair of the guardrails, lacking to treat the settlements, while in the Salinas bridge it is concluded, but the guardrails were damaged.
On the Quiteta and Queve bridges, the guardrails have already been intervened, while the Quicombo bridge is concluded.
