Sonangol spends over USD14 million on School 42

Luanda - Over USD 14 million was spent on the country’s First School of the Network 42 "School 42", one of the world’s best in programming, Angola’s Oil company Sonangol has announced.

The information was released by Sonangol’s CEO Sebastião Martins, while speaking to journalists at the end of the inauguration of the school by the President João Lourenço.

He said that the company spent in the first phase 2 billion kwanzas on the infrastructure, while in the second phase the firm earmarked USD 7 million and another USD 7 million will be made available for the operations and maintenance in the operating phase.

Sebastião Martins explained that the training process will be free, but young people will be required to possesses academic level, considered necessary to attend to attend school.

We are not talking about Angolan companies only. We are talking about companies like Google, Amazon and Microsoft. These are high-tech companies that give our young people the opportunity to also participate in the digital world market, which today is very competitive.

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said that the programme provides for interaction with companies during training. There will be internships that will determine the appetite of companies for trainees.

According to the minister, the training is not essentially aimed at the oil industry, "it is aimed at everyone who uses technology, programmers, who need technical intervention in the digital area. The range of opportunities, employability for those who had the opportunity to enter school is very wide ".

Diamantino Azevedo emphasised that almost everything revolves around technology and the Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas sector believes it has an added responsibility to help the younger generations, making them more capable of the digital world.

Minister  Azevedo also said that, Sonangol-EP, by embracing this project, financing its entire implementation so far and making these facilities available here at ISPETC, wants to give young people the opportunity, regardless of their education, social background or economic capacity, to maximise their potential.
