Luanda – The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Bragança on Monday said in Luanda that Angola already gets benefits from the implementation of Monitoring Program for Environment and Security in Africa (GMES & Africa), programme.
According to the minister, the country benefits from this program through the monitoring and evaluation project of transboundary wetlands in southern African watersheds (WeMAST) phase 1 and 2.
Maria do Rosário Bragança, who was speaking at the opening of a workshop on environmental monitoring for security in Africa, referred that the financing of the program made it possible to carry out a couple of activities, such as the elaboration of projects on Atlas on the Green Hydrogen (H2ATLAS).
According to the minister, the GMES & Africa Programme sponsors the African Union and the European Union joint-efforts on earth observation systems to respond to global needs, to understand and mitigate the effects of climate changes.
The workshop aims to bring together policy makers and other stakeholders in wetlands, environment and management of water resources with a focus on the principle: “Earth observation encourages/promotes the gap between science and politics”.
About 100 people are attending the workshop including 25 students from different African countries.
