Luanda - From the 25th of the current month, the Luanda Science Centre (CCL) will be promoting a cycle of reading sessions of traditional tales and debates called “Stories under the baobab”.
The initiative, which will take place on the last Saturday of each month, will combine the reading of tales, traditional proverbs and debates on themes related to Angolan tradition, with projections of “videomapping”, some of a scientific nature.
According to a note ANGOP had access to on Thursday the first edition of the event will be animated by writer, journalist and university lecturer José Luís Mendonça, who will guide the audience through traditional Angolan tales from local oral tradition literature.
After the stories are read and acted out using gestural and body choreography typical of orality and state-of-the-art technological platforms, the press release states, the audience will be invited to take part in a conversation with the speaker and show off their storytelling talents.
This CCL project is inspired by the Angolan oral tradition and the old baobab by the old soap factory, around which the public will sit during the sessions.
With this initiative, the Science Centre aims to raise awareness among the population, especially young people, of the importance of knowing and valuing Angola's traditional culture and customs.
The Luanda Science Centre (CCL) is a public institution that promotes scientific, technological and cultural knowledge.
It has six permanent interdisciplinary exhibitions that encourage the development of skills and knowledge in various scientific fields. These exhibitions also promote the appreciation of the environment and the spread of Angola's history and culture.
The institution is supported by a network of national and international researchers and scientists and has a planetarium, a butterfly garden, a laboratory, a media library, among other facilities, which allow experimentation, learning and the organisation of scientific, educational and recreational events.
It was inaugurated on 20 December 2023, on the premises of the old soap factory in Luanda, and it is under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.
