Cuvango - Students from different education subsystems in the municipality of Cuvango, southern Huíla Province, were encouraged by the Human Rights Committee to report any cases of sexual harassment in schools, as a way of eradicating this trend in institutions.
The appeal was made this Tuesday by the municipal coordinator of the Human Rights Committee, José Ndala, during a lecture on the theme "Sexual Harassment of Teachers for students in II cycle schools, as a violation of Human Rights".
According to José Ndala, the approach to the issue of sexual harassment is pertinent, particularly for women, as they are the biggest victims of such situations, often pepetrated by teachers.
He argued that it is essential that victims go to the legal authorities to, from a legal point of view, file a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), so that the offender can be held accountable.
The municipality of Cuvango is 356 kilometers east of Lubango, province of Huíla. Although there are reports of cases of harassment by some teachers, there is no record of complaints about the matter to the concerned authorities.
