Luanda - The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment Saturday expressed dismay at the death of the artist and musician Firmino Ribeiro, who died on January 22 in Luanda, victim of an illness.
In a note of condolence sent to Angop, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment states that the work of Firmino Ribeiro is an unquestionable heritage from the historical and artistic point of view.
It also highlights the set of works left by Firmino Ribeiro mirrors, under the technique of realism, the political, cultural and social life of Angola.
After the independence of the country, achieved on 11 November, 1975, Firmino Ribeiro had a formal recognition at the level of the ruling MPLA party , whose diploma was signed by the then first President of the Republic, António Agostinho Neto, in which he praised his achievements.
Firmino Ribeiro was one of the authors of the famous portrait of President Agostinho Neto made in charcoal drawing.
Firmino Ribeiro also recorded, in charcoal drawing, other Angolan heroes of the armed liberation struggle, namely Valódia, Hoji ya Henda, Américo Boavida, Dangereux, Eurico, among others.
Born on August 25, 1946, in the city of Sumbe, province of Cuanza Sul, Mendes Ribeiro, was a founding member of the National Union of Plastic Artists (UNAP) and the National Union of Artists and Composers (UNAC).
