Luanda - Historian Alberto Oliveira Pinto said Thursday that African literary works, in general, and Angolan in particular, served during the colonial era as a means of propaganda, many without the intention of the authors.
The professor, who was speaking at the conference, via zoom, promoted by the Angolan Academy of Arts, said these works at the time (half of the 20th century) were looked down upon for being written by Africans.
"In the colonial era, the colonizers sought to belittle African literature and exalt other literature," he said.
Because of this, he continued, many of the works by African writers were plagiarized by other writers.
Alberto Oliveira Pinto highlighted the need to talk more in the media, schools, talk, write, and share knowledge about colonial literature so that the history may be known by several generations.
During his speech, the historian approached the theme "Angola and the Angolans in the Portuguese colonial literature of the first half of the 20th century".
