Luanda - The musician Filipe Mukenga and the writer Amélia da Lomba are among those to receive the 2021 National Culture and Arts Prize in the Music and Literature categories to be awarded in December.
According to the head of the jury, José Octávio Serra Van-Dúnem, the choice of Filipe Mukenga is due to the fact that he is a great and talented musician with a long career of 58 years and for not having been properly recognized during the last 45 years.
The writer Amélia da Lomba, in her turn, was chosen due to her set of work, which praises the spiritual purity of urban environments and for an aesthetic quality that seeks to explore the relevance of rhythms and movements combined without losing sight of the social, political and literary context.
In the category of Plastic Arts the artist Ana Silva was awarded becoming the second woman to receive the award for almost two decades, while for the Theater the jury awarded the prize to the director and trainer Rogério Ferreira de Carvalho, for all his works and his contribution to the development of theater in Angola and despite living abroad has always been connected to the country.
Instituted in 2000, the National Culture and Arts Award has the purpose of rewarding creators in the literature, cinema and audio visuals, plastic arts, performing arts and research in human and social sciences, being an expression of celebration and recognition of excellence, dedication, creative spirit, constant work and the testimony of remarkable careers, worthy of the highest distinction of the Angolan State.
