Uíge - Twenty-seven carnival groups from children and adults will participate in the 2024 edition of Carnival, in the province of Uíge, informed today (Tuesday) the director of the Provincial Office of Culture, Youth and Sports, Gomes Costa.
Of the groups that will participate in this edition, 20 are from the adult class and seven are children. The previous edition also featured 27 carnival groups.
Speaking to ANGOP, the spokesperson explained that the participating groups are from the municipalities of Quimbele, Milunga, Buengas, Maquela do Zombo, Damba and Bembe.
Regarding the organization of the event, Gomes Costa informed that preparations are progressing at a good pace, from choreography, clothing, among other aspects that characterize this cultural event.
As for sponsorship, he said that, so far, they only have the support of the provincial government and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment.
For this reason, he appealed to the local business class to support the initiative, justifying that it represents the cultural manifestation of a people, through the demonstration of cultural dances and songs.
The municipal event will take place from the 8th to the 10th of this month, while the provincial event will be held on the 13th, under the motto “Cultural diversity as a factor in tourist attraction”.
In the 2023 edition, in the province of Uíge, the group “Grutas do Nzenzo” won the title in the adult class, 2nd placed Namputo da Damba and the Andack group in third place.
In the children's class, the groups Estrelinha do Quitexe, Nova Geração and Dana Kaindo were the winners. EPP/JAR/CF/DOJ
