Malanje - The deputy governor of Malanje for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Franco Mufinda, reiterated this Thursday, the local government's commitment to implementing policies to encourage reading among children and young people.

This measure, he explained, aims to cultivate a behavior and habit for literature and essentially involves the creation of municipal libraries.

Speaking at the opening of the Provincial Book, Culture and Tourism Fair, called FEPROLIVRO, promoted by the publisher Castelo das Edições, the Franco Mufinda recognized the importance of books in transmitting knowledge and training new people, hence the government's focus on this segment.

He said that in addition to municipal libraries, other actions to encourage reading have been the government's interaction with publishers and associations that bring together writers, with emphasis on the Young Literature Brigade (BJL), aiming to search for viable solutions for production of literary works.

On the other hand, Franco Mufinda defended the need to retrieve oral culture, considering it to be a fundamental tool for the transmission of habits and customs, which stimulate imagination and creativity.

Regarding FEPROLIVRO, the deputy governor said that it constitutes a privileged space for sharing knowledge and that the academy should take advantage of it to disseminate its scientific work.

In turn, the managing partner of Castelo das Edições, Manuel Castelo Eduardo, said that the event aims to stimulate a love of reading and that more than two books of different genres are on display, from literary to scientific.

He stressed that Malanje is the second province to host FEPROLIVRO, after Luanda, and the event is expected to expand to Cuanza-Norte and Uíge in the near future.

Running under the motto “Encouraging the Enjoyment of Reading and Promoting the Development of Culture”, the Fair will happen until Saturday (24) and also includes has a musical-cultural show.
