Mbanza Kongo - The historian Patrício Batsikama defended on Thursday, in Mbanza Kongo, northern Zaire province, the construction of a monument in honor of the prophetess Kimpa Vita.
Known as the mother of African unity, Kimpa Vita (1683-1705) tried to unify the Kongo Kingdom, through her antianonist movement (a syncretic bakongo catholic movement formed in the Kongo Kingdom between 1704 and 1708), but ended up being sentenced to death by the then colonial regime.
The anthropologist made the remarks, while addressing the theme "The life and work of the prophetess Kimpa Vita", at the opening of the activities allusive to the 4th anniversary of the elevation of the city of Mbanza Kongo to World Heritage Site to be marked on July 8.
Batsikama suggested that the monument should be based on the faculty of African theology to associate scientific knowledge and the use of individual reason.
