Mbanza Kongo - The director of the Zaire provincial office for Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Nzuzi Makiese, highlighted on Friday, the prophetess Kimpa Vita's achievements for the unification of the former Kongo Kingdom.
The official made the remarks during a thanksgiving service that gathered faithful from different denominations, in honor of the 315th death anniversary of the prophetess Kimpa Vita.
According to the director, the deeds of this African figure that fought for the liberation of the African people from the colonial yoke also contributed to the elevation of the city of Mbanza Kongo to World Heritage Site.
"She is a prophetess known as the mother of African unity, a warrior and political leader of the Kongo Kingdom, who did everything to unify the people," Makiesse said.
For Nzuzi Makiese, just the fact that the Angolan government is naming a public university after Kimpa Vita shows the influence and power that this figure had in the former Kingdom of Kongo.
This is the first homage that the Zaire provincial government pays to Kimpa Vita, who died, at the age of 22, in 1706.
