Luanda - The opening ceremony of the 2024 Judicial Year, led by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, was the highlight of the political news this week.
The President emphasised on the occasion that the judiciary is required to provide justice that is fair, equitable, swift and serves people, businesses and society, with a view to strengthening the rule of law in the country.
João Lourenço said that the Executive, in collaboration with the competent structures of the judiciary, is working to implement a programme to computerise the judicial system, which should cover the courts and the Attorney General's Office (PGR), modernising and increasing the efficiency and speed of action of these bodies.
According to the Head of State, the computerisation of the courts will make it possible for the magistrate to perform acts at all times and, from any location, have remote access to the proceedings.
Regarding the fight against corruption, he said that Angola had achieved good and unequivocal results.
Meetings
During the week under review, the Angolan Head of State met with his counterpart from the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi, as the mediator appointed by the African Union (AU) to deal with the situation in the east of that country.
At the end of the meeting, Foreign Minister Téte António revealed that Félix Tshisekedi had agreed to meet with his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame, to resolve the situation of instability in the east of the DRC.
Teté António said that Angola had been given the task of taking the subsequent "steps" to realise the meeting, without any reference to dates.
Still in the presidential activities, the Head of State received a message from his Equatorial Guinean counterpart, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, regarding the multi-regional consultations at the highest level between the two countries. DC/VIC/DAN/DOJ
