Luanda – Angola National Assembly approved Thursday the draft report on the Sports Anti-Doping Law.
According to the explanatory report, the fight against doping in sport has been a way of preserving the health of sportspeople, guaranteeing fair play and ensuring the practice of clean sport, where the principles of ethics and truth are rigorously respected.
Today's reality has shown that, despite all the efforts made, the use of banned substances does not only affect high-performance sport, but also young people of school age and bodybuilders use it, making it a public health problem for some countries.
Angola signed up to the United Nations Charter against Doping in Sport in 2006 and, in January 2009, the Parliament approved resolution 8/09, acceding to the International Convention against Doping in Sport.
The report refers to the need to adapt the national norms to the World Anti-Doping Code, whose primary mission is to combat the use of prohibited substances and methods in sport.
It also aims to contribute to the education and training of athletes and other sports agents on the subject of the fight against doping in sport.
The draft includes the prohibition of doping, accountability of the practitioner, the list of prohibited substances and methods, control of access during and outside of sporting competitions and the medical treatment of sportspeople. DC/VIC/AMP
