Luanda - The National Assembly (AN) this Friday elected lawyer Aguinaldo Guedes da Costa Cristóvão, to the position of deputy ombudsman.
The election was held during the 11th Ordinary Plenary Meeting, chaired by the Speaker of the Angolan parliament, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
The Resolution for the election of the Deputy Ombudsman was approved with 158 votes in favour, one against and no abstention.
The internal regulation of the AN establishes that the election of the Ombudsman and his deputy is done in secret.
However, as there was only one candidate, the Parliament speaker asked the Plenary for the election to be held by show of hands.
Aguinaldo Cristóvão, journalist and former Secretary of State for Culture, was proposed by the MPLA Parliamentary Group, within the framework of the parliamentary regulations.
