Luanda - The National Assembly (Angolan Parliament) will elect the deputy ombudsman at its 11th Ordinary Plenary Meeting, scheduled for the 24th of this month.
The National Assembly's specialised committees assessed and voted this Friday, in general terms, the Draft Resolution that approves the election of the Deputy Ombudsman.
The election of this entity did not occur in the last plenary meeting due to the lack of vacancy of the respective position.
The law provides that in case of vacancy of the deputy Ombudsman position before the end of his or her mandate, the Parliament appoints the new deputy Ombudsman within thirty days.
The MPLA parliamentary group proposed the lawyer Aguinaldo Guedes da Costa Cristóvão as a candidate for the position of deputy ombudsman, within the framework of the National Assembly's regulations.
The vacancy of the deputy Ombudsman position occurs after the publication, in the Official Gazette, of the Draft Resolution that elected the new Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo.
The Deputy Ombudsman substitutes the Ombudsman in his absences and impediments, within the framework of the Organic Law of the Ombudsman Office Statute.
