Angola participates in the NEPAD meeting

Luanda - Angola participated Tuesday in the 41st Orientation Session of Heads of State and Government of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), which took place in virtual format and served to present the 2023 Performance Report.

According to a press release, the event was hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, representing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

On the occasion, Téte Antônio praised the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) for its assessment of infrastructure investment across the continent.

 He stressed that it was necessary to maintain the trend of infrastructure development, taking into account the impact they have on Africa's growth.

The diplomat called on member countries to implement projects in this field, essentially in the areas of health, energy and digitalization, among others.

During the meeting, the Progress Report on the NEPAD Presidential Infrastructure Champion Initiative (PICI) was also presented.

The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) is a socio-economic program of the African Union (AU) and aims, among other objectives, to eradicate poverty, promote growth and sustainable development, integrate the African continent into the world economy and accelerating women’s empowerment.

It also intends to coordinate and execute priority regional and continental projects to promote regional integration towards the accelerated achievement of Agenda 2063, strengthen the capacity of Member States and regional bodies of the African Union.

It also aims to promote knowledge-based consultative support, undertake the full range of resource mobilization and serve as the continent's technical interface with all African stakeholders and development partners.

In this 41st NEPAD Heads of State and Government Orientation Session, participants discussed ways to help Member States and Regional Economic Communities (RECs).

They highlighted capacity building in key areas such as food and nutrition, energy, water, infrastructure, information and communication technology and digital economy, natural resource governance, climate change and development and innovation of institutional and human capital.

Angola participated in this event at the invitation of the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as president of the Guidance Committee of Heads of State and Government of the New Partnership for Africa's Development. FMA/VIC/DOJ
