Luanda – Angola´s Secretary General of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri and his South African counterpart, Xolile George, on Wednesday, in Cape Town, South Africa, analyzed the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation in different domains.

The two parliamentarians met in the framework of the South African Legislative Sector Oversight Summit 2024 this month, taking place from 30 to 31 January.

Pedro Agostinho de Neri, highlighted the importance of the cooperation emphasizing the need for a protocol on Communication and Information Technology (CIT), English language training and improvement of the administrative management.

For his part, Xolile George praised the way he was received in Angola when he took part in the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Luanda in October 2023.

He expressed his desire to visit the Angolan Parliament at the end of February this year, with the aim of learning about Angola's experience in planning the construction of the new South African Parliament building.

Angola's participation in the summit sought to fulfil the objectives set by the event's organisers, sharing experiences and ideas that could serve as a model for the Angolan parliament and politics.

The event, under the motto "Striving to achieve oversight that guarantees the realization of a better life for all South Africans", it aimed, among other things, to reflect on the effectiveness of the role of the Legislative Sector in the execution of constitutional mandates, oversight, public participation and lawmaking, as well as to share experiences in the sector and exchange ideas with regional, continental and international counterparts on effective oversight practices.

Angolan´s delegation is led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, accompanied by deputy Pedro Sebastião, the secretary general of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri, and also includes the Angolan ambassador to South Africa, Rui Orlando Xavier, and the Angolan consul general in Cape Town, Elsa Caposso Vicente.
