Libreville – President João Lourenço´s 24 hour working visit to the Republic of Gabon at the invitation of Gabon Head of State, Ali Bongo Ondimba, will serve to boost bilateral cooperation, stressed Wednesday, in Libreville City, the Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.
The minister was speaking to the Angolan press after arriving in Gabon, the largest city of Libreville.
During the visit of the Head of State in the Gabonese capital, two important agreements will be signed, the first on the visa exemption on diplomatic and service passports and the second on political consultations.
According to Téte António for these two documents the visa waiver is the first step. Afterwards the process can evolve according to the possibility and consideration of the two states.
The head of Angolan diplomacy, recalled that the two countries had not held a meeting of the Bilateral Commission for some 37 years and that João Lourenço´s visit would pave the way for that to happen as soon as possible.
Téte António assured that there are more interests between Angola and Gabon such as in the oil sector, trade, wood production, as well as in the regional framework through the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) based in Libreville, which is currently headed by the Angolan ambassador Gilberto Veríssimo.
Diplomatic relations between Angola and Gabon date back to 24 May 1982, when the first Angolan ambassador to Gabon, Dombele Mbala Bernardo, presented his diplomatic credentials to the former president of Gabon, Omar Bongo Ondimba.
