Luanda - Angola and the Czech Republic on Monday in Luanda assessed the level of cooperation and looked at new areas for strengthening bilateral relations.

The assessment was made during a meeting between delegations from the two countries, where the parties exchanged views on national, regional and international issues of common interest.

In this regard, the Angolan Ministry for Foreign Relations (Mirex) said in a press release that the delegations also reviewed the potential of the two countries and the opportunities that their respective markets offer.

The document said that Angola and the Czech Republic considered it a priority to establish solid and effective cooperation in several areas.

The delegations were headed by the head of Angolan diplomacy, Téte António, and by the State Secretary for Foreign Relations of the Czech Republic, Martin Tlapa.

Mirex indicated that during the opening session, Téte António made an approach on the holding of elections in Angola (period August 2022), spoke of the unofficial electoral registration and the continuity of the reforms adopted by the Angolan government.

The fight against Covid-19 and its impact on the Angolan economy, economic diversification, within the scope of economic diplomacy, and the Private Investment Law, were, among other issues, discussed and analysed during the meeting.

Martin Tiapa has been in Luanda since Sunday for a four-day official visit to Angola.

Angola established political and diplomatic relations and cooperation with the Czech Republic on 1 January 1993, the date on which the new Czech state was established.

A Declaration on Bilateral Relations between the two countries was signed on 1 December 1999.

In 2006, the parties signed the Memorandum of Understanding and the Development Cooperation Programme.
