Luanda - Angola will manage the transition period until the definitive installation in Luanda, next July, of the Permanent Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (PA-CPLP), approved on Thursday during the first extraodinary meeting held via videoconference.

According to MP Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, technicians from the Angolan National Assembly will, through an installation committee, deal with formal, operational and legal-diplomatic issues, with the collaboration and support of the First Committee of the AP-CPLP.

The president of the national group in the PA-CPLP, also said that during that period the organization will move forward in order to agree and approve some normative instruments on which the functioning of the Permanent Secretariat depends, namely its regulation and appointment of the secretary.

Pereira explained that the facilities to accommodate the Permanent Secretariat will be available between March and June next year, because at this time the work has already reached 95 percent of its execution, missing only the furnishing and other things.

He said that everyone's expectation is that its formal inauguration will take place at the 14th Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in July 2021 in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

During the meeting, the Portuguese-speaking parliamentarians also discussed the impact of the Covid-19 on the functioning of national parliaments, a Motion of Solidarity with Mozambique was also presented due to the terrorist attacks that the country has been victim, as well as the approval of the Statutes of the CPLP Youth Parliamentary Network.
