Luanda – Angola will maintain its stance as international strategic partner and promoter of peace, stability and harmonious development of the peoples of Africa and the world.

The country’s commitment was expressed Friday in Luanda by Foreign Affairs minister, Tete António, who said that Angolan diplomacy will continue to contribute to resolution of the conflicts in the southern, central and Great Lakes regions of the African continent.

Addressing a New Year's greeting ceremony, the minister said that Angola is concerned about hotspots in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Central African Republic (CAR), calling  to the peoples and politicians of those countries to find a way out of the situation, through dialogue, to ensure peace and stability.

"We are also concerned about the wave of acts of terrorism in some African countries, such as Mali, Chad, Nigeria, Mozambique and Cameroon, he said, adding that such a situation disrupts development process of the countries and the hinders the creation of conditions for the well-being of populations.

Addressing the members of the Diplomatic Bodies to Angola and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), Tete António hailed the Angolan diplomacy for its dedication and commitment, despite the covid-19 pandemic.

Tete Antonio, who was taking stock of the activity performed in 2020, praised his sector for participating in various regional and international forums.

He said the sector took part in Summits of Heads of State and Government of SADC, the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), the Council of Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), and the United Nations Permanent Consultative Committee on Security Issues in Central Africa (UNSAC).

The minister highlighted the country's participation in the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where Angola reaffirmed its commitment to the institution’s Charter, Agenda 2030 and the challenges of Sustainable Development, as well as the meeting of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

The official stressed the election of Georges Chikoti for the position of Secretary General of the OACPS, Gilberto Veríssimo as head of the ECCAS, and João Samuel Caholo, who took over the position of Executive Secretary of the ICGLR.

Tete António also highlighted the inauguration, by the President João Lourenço, of the Diplomatic Academy Venâncio de Moura, as well as the Colloquium under the topic: "The role of Angolan diplomacy in the recognition of Angola's independence".

Stress also went to the new Portal of Foreign Affairs Ministry, which he described as crucial for diplomatic communication in the era of the information society as well as the strengthening of digital diplomacy.

However, the minister expressed his sector’s commitment to permanent diplomacy, with priority to economic issues, mainly on attracting foreign private investment.
