Luanda – The Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, left this Tuesday for New York, United States of America, in order to participate in the Open Ministerial Debate at the United Nations Security Council.
The debate is part of Kenya’s initiative in the ambit of its participation in the presidency of the UN Security Council, during the current month, states a note of the Directorate of Information Technologies, Institutional Communication and Press of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Angola's participation in this Debate is the result of an invitation from the Kenyan Foreign Affairs minister, Raychelle Omamo, to the Angolan counterpart, Téte António.
The event takes place under the motto "Supporting the Renewed Commitment of the Great Lakes Countries in the Search for Sustainable Solutions for the Deep and Driving Causes of Conflicts".
Kenya defined Regional Peace and Security as one of the priorities of its presidency, with an emphasis on the African Continent.
The event will be attended by the special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Great Lakes Region, Huang Xia and the Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), João Caholo.
The meeting will also be attended by the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Head of MONUSCO, Bintou Keita.
