Luanda - The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, has praised the work carried out by the National Police (PN) in the defence of public order and tranquillity, territorial integrity and the sublime values of the homeland.
In a congratulatory note on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the founding of the PN, which is being marked this Wednesday (28), the leader of the Angolan parliament hopes that the corporation will continue to play the role that the Constitution and other legal instruments reserve for it for the good of the security, order and tranquillity of the people.
"On behalf of the members of the National Assembly and myself, I would like to express my warmest congratulations to all the officers who work together every day to defend public order and tranquillity, territorial integrity and the sublime values of the country", reads the note.
Carolina Cerqueira paid special tribute to the Personal Security and Protocol Entities Police (UPP/UGH), who according to her, on this day have collaborated with the Parliament to ensure the normal functioning and free movement and protection of parliamentarians in the exercise of their activities.
She also rejoiced at the promotion of female personnel to senior positions of responsibility in the military corporation which proves the effective application of the protection and defence of women's rights.
The MP expressed her appreciation for the PN's performance in combating human and organ trafficking, border violations, smuggling of mineral resources, violence against minors, domestic violence, family breakdown and disaster relief and rescue.
National Police Day is celebrated every year on 28 February because it was on this date in 1976 that the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of 383 officers at the Mártires do Kapolo Police School in Luanda.
The main ceremony of the PNA's 48th anniversary festivities will take place at the "Osvaldo Serra Van-Dúnem" Higher Institute of Police and Criminal Sciences, under the chairmanship of the corporation's general commander, Commissioner General Arnaldo Manuel Carlos.
