Luanda - Angola and United States Tuesday in Luanda discussed cooperation in several areas.

This was during an the President of the Republic João Lourenço granted to the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi.

The meeting focused on topics such as the project to install photovoltaic energy in the country, maritime defence and security, good governance, economic partnership, investments in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

The US diplomat told the press that he also discussed with the Angolan Head of State matters related to the US/Africa Summit, slated for 13-15 December this year in Washington.

The Summit that will gather African leaders and US entities will discuss ways to continually strengthen relations.

Situation in the Great Lakes

Ambassador Tulinabo Mushingi praised President João Lourenço's efforts focused on promotion of political and military pacification in the Great Lakes region, with particular emphasis on resolving the crisis between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He acknowledged Angola’s efforts to help solving the conflict between these two African countries.

August general elections

Tulinabo Mushingi said that the authorities of his country have been following the process of the general elections in Angola for some time, and that, despite “very modest support”, the US has invested USD4.5 million in different political parties and for civil society.

He said that the US defends the promotion of tolerance, so that, on the day of publication of the election results, the winners and losers take into account that they are all Angolan citizens.

A total of 14.3 million voters, of whom 22,560 abroad, are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections.
