Benguela - The Studies Center for Good Governance (UFOLO) holds on Saturday in Benguela city, a meeting on Citizenship and Public Safety: Conflicts of fundamental rights in the contemporary rule of law.

The event aims to discuss the tensions and conflicts between fundamental rights and public security, having as basis the Constitution and the need to create an adequate climate for investment, so that everyone can live in prosperity.

According to a note from the organization to which ANGOP had access, Angola is currently witnessing an exacerbation of this tension between freedom and security, pointing out three factors that contribute to the increase in social pressure: the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the worsening of the economic situation and consequent rupture of the social standard and the political consequences of combating corruption.

"More than ever, within the framework of the rule of law, it is necessary to define more clearly the limits of the exercise of fundamental rights in relation to the needs of public security, reads the note.

There is no magic solution to this dialectical limitation, having to look for consensual criteria so that, in practice, the conflicts of fundamental rights can be solved", adds the note.

The document states that public security prevails over any attempt at constitutional subversion, that is, rights and citizenship must be exercised within the constitutional framework.

"Besides being urgent to clarify the relationship between the exercise of fundamental rights and public security, it is also crucial to solve the problem of investment and economic progress," the UFOLO note highlights.

The event will have as speakers the provincial commander of the National Police in Benguela, commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos, sociologist Paulo Inglês, Bangula Quemba (university lecturer), Osvaldo Cruz (economist) and journalist João de Almeida.

The document also informs that testimonies of activists António Pongoti, Avisto Bota and Sara Paulo are scheduled, while the rapper MCK will moderate the meeting.

The UFOLO (Freedom in Quimbundo national language) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan and non-governmental Center of Studies for Good Governance in Angola, organized on the basis of democratic principles, according to the Law.

Based in Luanda, the UFOLO has as its social object the realization of activities in favor of citizenship and human dignity, as well as the economic and social development of Angola.
