Elections2022: MPLA leader vows to crackdown on corruption

Sumbe - The MPLA candidate for President of the Republic João Lourenço has pledged to continue fighting against corruption and impunity.

This was during a mass rally held in coastal Cuanza Sul Province on Wednesday, as part of the 24 August election campaign.

 

Also President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who described the impunity as "dangerous", called for the need to fight against this evil, regardless of who is responsible for it.

 

Lourenço said that the reforms conducted over the last five years, have been allowing the creation of a good business environment, which attracted investment, secured jobs and improved Angola's external image.

 

He referred to the economic reforms for better management of public assets, so that non-operating companies would no longer be a burden to the State's coffers.

 

He also said that private management was producing profits, training young people and guaranteeing jobs, improving many Angolans way of living.

 

The MPLA leader said that the public tender for privatisation of the management of the Lobito Corridor had been announced so that, among other things, the Benguela Railroad could transport more passengers and cargo.

 

João Lourenço promised to resume the construction of the new ring road in Sumbe, to avoid the traffic of trucks in the city centre, and the construction of the bridge linking Seles municipality.

 

Addressing a rally, where he introduced the candidate for vice president of the Republic, Esperança Costa,  João Lourenço also  said that during his term in office, several programmes and projects were implemented in the different municipalities.

 

He said that the programme covered, among others fields, education, health and roads, taking into account the importance and extent of the road network in Cuanza Sul province.

 

Angola will conduct general elections on 24 August, with eight political parties expected to compete for the process.

 

Roughly 14.3 million eligible voters will participate in the polls.
