Luanda – Angolan Head of State João Lourenço expressed Friday dismay at death of the former president of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio, victim of an illness.
On the condolence message, the Angolan statesman states that Jorge Sampaio was an outstanding personality, who, for over 30 years, held some of the most important political officers of his country.
“It was with a deep feeling of sorrow that I’ve learnt of the passing away, from an ilness, of Dr Jorge Sampaio, an outstanding personality in the Portuguese democratic life (...)”.
President João Lourenço also highlighted the fact that Jorge Sampaio always had a relationship of great respect and cordiality with the African Portuguese-speaking countries.
Jorge Sampaio, who held the office of President of the Portuguese Republic for ten years, died at the age of 81, in Lisbon.
