Paris - The Summit on Economy of Africa, also attended by the Angolan President João Lourenço in Paris, France, recommended Tuesday mobilisation of funds to ensure the production of Covid -19 vaccine on the African continent.
Dozens of African leaders attended the event, where the host French President, Emmanuel Macron, spoke of “immediate” transfer of technology and intellectual capacity to boost the African countries on vaccine production.
Macron said that the intention is to provide the African continent with a value of USD 100 billion, through the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that African countries need a financing equivalent to USD 450 billion by 2025, announcing plans to increase the emergency aid.
At the summit, which ended early Tuesday evening in Paris, the President Emmanuel Macron backed the initiative of economic renewal on the African continent.
Speaking on behalf of the African leaders at the meeting, the acting President of the African Union, Félix Tshisekedi, stressed the negative impact of Covid-19 pandemic on economy in Africa and the need for its recovery.
Summit in Paris discussed ways of providing support to African countries hit hard by the health crisis. It was attended by various African and European heads of state and several issues was discussed.
Angolan president meets with French counterpart
Angolan head of State João Lourenço met, on the sidelines of the Summit, with French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, during which they analysed bilateral and regional issues.
Angola and France established diplomatic relations on 17 February 1976. In 1982, the two countries signed a General Cooperation Agreement.
Both countries have political, economic and cultural cooperation relations, which saw new developments, after President João Lourenço's official visit to that European country, on 28 May 2018.
France intends to exchange and deepen trade relations with Angola, as part of the economic diversification underway in the country, with priorities to the industrialisation, particularly in the fields of logistics, distribution, agribusiness, among other areas.
