Huambo – The Executive Secretary of the Provincial Youth Council (CPJ) in the central Huambo Province, Rafael Capapelo, has highlighted the patriotism, bravery and determination of the heroes of 4 February as an inspiration for young people.
Speaking during a lecturer on the value of the date, he said that the value and patriotic spirit of the 4 February heroes should be replicated among Angolan youth, so that they can contribute to maintaining and preserving peace.
He advocated that the date should be more publicised given its importance with the aim to make the new generation to know more about it.
Rafael Capapelo called on young people to follow the example of the heroes by participating, directly or indirectly, in actions aimed at improving social conditions and the growth of the national economy, as well as to show greater involvement in anti-crime programmes, with an emphasis on vandalising public property.
The youth leader promised to intensify the civic moralisation campaigns for young people, so that they are increasingly engaged in improving living conditions, with resilience and persistence, embracing virtues of human dignity.
The programme of activities for the 4th of February drawn up by CPJ in Huambo province plans to mobilise around 500 young people to donate blood to the General Hospital, as part of the "Osonde yo Mwenyo" project (The Blood of Life).
4 February 1961 is considered an important milestone in the African struggle against colonialism, in a tradition of resistance against occupation that goes back to the peoples of Kassanje, Ndongo and the Central Plateau.
The events of February 1961 represent a sublime expression of nationalism demonstrated by Angolans.
