Addis Ababa – Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia Miguel César Domingos Bembe has defended “comprehensive and pragmatic cooperation relations with Eritrea, under the pan-African, integrated, prosperous and peaceful vision”.

Miguel Bembe, who is Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), was speaking during a meeting held with Minister-Counselor Biniam Berhe, head of the Diplomatic Mission of the State of Eritrea in Ethiopia.

The Angola diplomat noted that both countries have excellent friendly ties, but called for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

Miguel Bembe, who was followed by other entities of the Angolan diplomatic representation, suggested the negotiation and signing of legal instruments that serve as a basis for bilateral cooperation.

The Angolan ambassador highlighted the existing General Cooperation Agreement in the Economic, Technical, Scientific and Cultural fields of  both country's governments, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of the Political Consultation Mechanism between the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Eritrean counterpart.

In his speech, the diplomat mentioned the Memorandum of Understanding in Defence, Security and Public Order for the implementation of the actions, aimed to meet the challenges of combating terrorism and organised crime, as well as promoting the exchange of experiences and the exchange of information in the area of maritime security.

Diplomat Miguel Bembe and his interlocutor concluded that the similarities of the two countries, in terms of potential in water and mineral resources and in the agricultural field could result in a mutually advantageous partnership. SC/CF/NIC
