Dundo - MPLA candidate for President of the Republic João Lourenço reiterated Wednesday his party’s commitment to continue to give priority to the construction and rehabilitation of structural roads, with a view to accelerating the combat of regional disparities.

The head of the MPLA list made the pledge during a mass rally held in the urban district of Dundo, eastern Lunda Norte province, as part of the electoral campaign for the election on 24 August.

João Lourenço announced the completion works this year of 26km-National Road 225, which connects the capital of the province of Lunda Norte (Chitato) to the municipalities in the south (Cuilo, Caungula, Cuango, Xá-muteba and Capenda Camulemba), specifically on the Catata-Lóvua section.

He reiterated that the completion of the works on National Road 230, which connects eastern Angola to the country's coast, should be completed in August 2023.

He explained that financial resources are being mobilised, so that in the next term, the works on national road 180, which connects the provinces of Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul, are concluded, specifically on the Lucapa-Saurimo section.

He also announced that the MPLA will give priority to the stagnation of six large ravines in Lunda Norte province, should the party wins the polls.

The MPLA leader also promised that his party has in its government programme, for the very beginning of his term, the rehabilitation of the fuel storage center in the municipality of Lucapa, with a storage capacity of 2,500 cubic meters, which in the future could increase to 4,500.

He announced the construction of water supply systems in the municipalities of Chitato, Lucapa, Xá-Muteba and Lubalo, as well as the conclusion, in 2023, of the works of the water distribution network in Dundo, in an extension of 150 kilometers.

The process, he said, will enable 15,000 new household connections.

Eight political parties will run for the elections of 24 August, 2022.

They are MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA and P-NJANGO parties and the CASA-CE coalition.
