Lubango – At least 70 technicians of the non-governmental organisation Action for Rural and Environment Development (ADRA) are attending a four-day training programme on Community Development aimed to increase their intervention capacity in the election process.

ADRA is one of the organisations invited by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to observe the general elections in the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Malanje, Luanda, Huíla and Cunene.

The action also aims to understand the organisation's practice, namely governance and strategic planning, reflect on the usual analysis of the country's context in the past few months and share experiences related to social intervention methodologies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the ADRA director general, Carlos Cambuta, said the team will work with other civil society organisations to ensure a balanced distribution of election observers.

Cambuta appealed to the CNE to accredit observers as soon as possible, to allow their timely travel to the municipalities where they will be deployed.

Social activists are debating issues related to observation and electoral civic education to advise communities on their right to vote.

Over 1,700 election observers, including organisations and individuals, have been approved by the CNE to monitor the voting process in the polling stations throughout the country.

According to the CNE, the observer quota for the general elections defines the categories of national and international observers, as well as the necessary requirements for their submission and accreditation.
