Huambo - The central Huambo province-based Archbishop Zeferino Zeca Martins on Tuesday advised the political parties standing for 2022 elections to accept the results that will be released by the National Electoral Commission.

The church authority, who was speaking to the press about 24 August  elections, stressed the need for the parties to place, above all, the people’s wishes, respecting the results, whoever wins.

"Whatever emerges winner, the country should continue with the same progress, after all we are all brothers and children of the same land," said the church authority.

He appealed to the voters to maintain composure and sound conscience, adding that every Angolan should become a promoter of peace, good deeds, and respect for party differences.

Archbishop Zeferino Zeca Martins also urged the citizens, especially the voters, to observe the civic principles, based on knowing how to listen and respect for the other's opinion.

Data released by Provincial Electoral Commission (CNE) of Huambo puts at 1,015 the number of polling stations in the region.

Seven political parties and one coalition are running for the upcoming general elections.

They are MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, P-NJANGO, as well as the coalition CASA-CE.

Roughly 14.3 million voters including  22.560  residing abroad will cast their ballot papers.
