Caála – The commander of the National Police in central Huambo Province, Commissioner Francisco Ribas da Silva, on Thursday, called for the collaboration of chieftains to aid the combat against possible cases of political intolerance in this period of electoral campaign.
The commissioner, who was speaking at a meeting with the traditional authorities of the Caála Municipality, said the support of the Sobas (chieftains) in promoting civic and electoral education in the communities denouncing acts of intolerance will allow citizens to participatate in the August 24 elections with civility and respect for differences.
The high ranking officer spoke of the importance for traditional authorities to be increasingly attentive to all acts that contribute to public disorder, especially the removal of flags from another political party or coalition.
The commissioner, who was coy to present statistical data on possible cases of political intolerance at this stage of the electoral campaign, recommended the promotion of civic education for militants, so that citizens can face the elections with tranquility and security.
The Caála administrator, Ruben Etome, on his turn, said traditional authorities play an important role in preventing and fighting crimein the communities.
Huambo Province has 1.1 million voters registered and 1,150 polling stations.
Meanwhile, for the dissemination of their election manifestos and governance programmes, each political party and coalition has 10 minutes daily on Angola National Radio (RNA) station and five minutes on Angola Public Television (TPA).
Over 14.3 million citizens are to cast votes in the upcoming general elections, set to happen on 24 August, to chose the President of the Republic, the Vice President and the members of the National Assembly (Angolan parliament).
