Political parties "heat up" political scene in vote garnering

Luanda – As the country enters the second week of the election campaign, which started on 24 July, the eight political forces contesting the general elections of 24 August have intensified their vote hunting appeals across the country, with several candidates crossing paths.

PHA

 

The leader of the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), Florbela Malaquias, arrived Wednesday afternoon in the city of Dundo, north-eastern Lunda Norte Province, to lead a rally in the Municipality of Chitato, on Thursday.

 

After her arrival, the only woman candidate for President of the Republic in the general elections of this 24 August, had a courtesy meeting with the bishop of Dundo diocese, Bishop Estanislau Chindecasse, to whom she presented her governance programme.

 

P-NJANGO

 

The leader of the Nationalist Party for Justice in Angola (P-NJANGO), Eduardo Chingunji, went to the province of Huila (south) to start Thursday a tour of four municipalities of that province.

 

He will also be working until Sunday in the cities of Lubango (Huila), Moçâmedes (Namibe) and Ondjiva (Cunene). He will also inaugurate three provincial headquarters of the party, hold marches and rallies.

 

UNITA

 

In Cuito, capital of the central Bié Province, the candidate for President of the Republic of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola, Adalberto Costa Júnior, stressed the importance of the elections, reinforcing that it is a “democracy festival” for the country's development.

 

During a mass event held over one hour, while addressing militants, sympathizers and friends of the party, Adalberto Costa Junior said the media should provide equal treatment to all political parties contesting the elections.

 

FNLA

 

After the city of Mbanza Kongo, Zaire Province, Nimi-a-Simbi, head of list of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA) went to Cuimba Municipality (Zaire), where he organized a mass political event and held meetings with former FNLA guerrillas and local traditional authorities.

 

In the town of Cuimba, which is located 62 kilometres to the northeast of the historic city of Mbanza Kongo, the FNLA candidate said that his party wants to recover the place it always occupied in the Angolan political landscape, as a major party, in the golden moments of the 1970s.

 

CASA-CE

 

The Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE) held a campaign to mobilize people to vote in Prenda and Rocha Pinto markets in the municipality of Luanda, Province of Luanda, during which its vice-president, Alexandre Sebastião André, underlined the alternation desire.

 

On his turn, the head of the coalition's list, Manuel Fernandes, during his ten minutes of airtime on Angola National Radio station, urged voters to make a conscious choice of their future president.

 

APN

 

In the scope of his electoral campaign, the leader of the National Patriotic Alliance (APN), Quintino Moreira, travelled to the northern Bengo Province to maintain direct contact with the population on Thursday and Friday, to whom he will present his manifesto and governance programme.

 

Speaking to ANGOP on Wednesday, the party's vice-president, Ana Patrícia da Gama, said that the partisan caravan will interact with market vendors, hold marches and a mass act.

 

PRS

 

The Social Renewal Party held a rally in the Municipality of Luau, eastern Moxico Province, where its leader Benedito Daniel, reaffirmed that he will opt for a “participative and inclusive” governance to end regional asymmetries in Angola.

 

In his speech, Benedito Daniel expressed his will to renew the country with the implementation of a proximity government, which would privilege a greater attention to citizens and end regional asymmetries and the centralisation of power.

 

MPLA

 

In the city of Dundo, Lunda Norte province, the MPLA party candidate for President of the Republic, João Lourenço, pledged more investment in the energy sector, with a view to improving power supply in the eastern province of the country, with an investment of USD 212 million.

 

In a rally, he reiterated that MPLA will continue to prioritise the construction and rehabilitation of structural roads, aiming to step up the fight against regional asymmetries, reiterating that his party is the most interested in the institutionalisation of local elections, because its focus is on the country´s harmonious development.
