Luanda – The French President Emmanuel Macron might visit Angola this year. The information was released Wednesday in Luanda by the French ambassador to Angola, Daniel Vosgien.
The diplomat who would not state a date for the visit, was speaking to journalists at the end of an audience granted to him by the Angolan National Assembly speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
"President Emmanuel Macron has the intention of paying a visit to Angola, which could take place this year of 2021, though we don’t know when exactly,” said the ambassador.
He said the two countries enjoy a very positive relation, made stronger with the visit President João Lourenço paid to Paris, France, where he attended the International Summit on African Economies financing.
On the fringes of the said Paris Summit, the Angolan Head of State met with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, with whom he discussed matters concerning bilateral cooperation.
The diplomat said he informed the National Assembly speaker about the mission and strategy of the bilateral cooperation in various spheres, particularly relating to French investment projects in Angola and cooperation in education and language.
Accredited to Angola on 15 December 2020, Daniel Vosgien is a career diplomat since 1994, having served as such in Germany, Switzerland and Portugal.
Angola and France established diplomatic relations on 17 February 1976. In 1982, the two countries signed a General Cooperation Agreement.
Both countries also enjoy relations of political, economic and cultural cooperation.
The cooperation between the two countries gained a boost with President Lourenço’s official visit to France, on 28 May 2018.
Angola’s oil exports to France stand at Usd 400 million and France has a strong presence in Angola with more than 70 companies that provide more than 10,000 jobs.
