Luanda - President of the Central African Republic (CAR) Faustin Touadéra left Luanda Thursday after an official working meeting with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço.

Faustin Touadéra, who paid a few-hour visit to Angola, did not speak to the press at the end of his visit.

At the meeting with the Angolan Head of State and acting President of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), the visiting president analysed the situation of peace, security and political stability in the Central African Republic.

Last Friday (15), President Faustin Touadéra announced a unilateral ceasefire by the army in the conflict with rebel groups.

With the exception of two important organisations, other rebel groups accepted the truce decreed by the army, following the efforts made by the ICGLR.

The Angolan Head of State has been regularly informed by his CAR counterpart about the situation in that country, which is experiencing a long political-military conflict.

Following the announcement of the ceasefire, President João Lourenço, on behalf of the organisation, greeted the Central African people and considered the decision to be an acknowledgment that dialogue between the living forces is the best way to achieve peace and stability.

ICGLR was created with the aim of resolving issues of peace and security after the political conflicts that ravaged the region in 1994.

ICGLR  comprises Angola, Burundi, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
