Brasilia - The Group of Ambassadors of the Community of the Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) Thursday in Brazil paid tribute to the late president of Angola José Eduardo dos Santos, who died in Barcelona, Spain.
Diplomats from Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal and East Timor stressed the relevant role played by José Eduardo dos Santos in creation, growth and consolidation of the CPLP.
The tribute took place during the second ordinary meeting of the Group chaired Pro-Tem by the Ambassador of Angola to Brazil, Florêncio de Almeida.
José Eduardo dos Santos died on July 8, at 79 years old in a clinic in Barcelona, Spain, where he had been hospitalised.
Angolan government had decreed seven-day of national mourning in honour of José Eduardo dos Santos.
Throughout the world, statesmen and other renowned figures paid tribute to President José Eduardo dos Santos and sent condolences to the Angolan people.
Some countries declared national mourning in memory of José Eduardo dos Santos, including Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.
