President João Lourenço arrives in Benguela

Benguela - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, arrived at mid-morning this Saturday in the province of Benguela, where he will attend the restart of the production process of textile factory África Têxtil, after years of standstill.

At Catumbela Airport, the Angolan president was welcomed by the State Minister and Head of the President's Security House, Pedro Sebastião, the governor of the province, Rui Falcão, members of the Government and other entities.

In Benguela, the agenda of João Lourenço, who is due to return to Luanda on Saturday, includes meetings with businesspeople, religious leaders and members of local civil society.

The province is notable for the Benguela Railway Company and the Port of Lobito.

Its industrial sector is based on metallurgy, textiles, ship repair, production of construction materials and food products.

As for agro-livestock production, Benguela has a history of cotton, sugar cane, coffee, bananas, beans and vegetables crops.

Situated on the southern coast of the country, Benguela province has an area of 39,827 square kilometres and a population estimated at 2.4 million inhabitants.
