Abu Dhabi - Angola’s head of State João Lourenço arrived Sunday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to participate in the Sustainability Week, a forum dedicated to the environment.

João Lourenço, who is accompanied by the First Lady Ana Dias Lourenço, will take part Tuesday in a panel on access to clean energy and its importance for Africa.

Also presidents of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema, Uganda Yoweri Museveni, and of Tanzania Samia Suluhu are expected to attend the panel.

This is the second time that resident João Lourenço is invited to express, in Abu Dhabi, his ideas on a more sustainable world, in the framework of Sustainability Week.

The first took place in January 2019.

Sustainability Week

Sustainability Week will run until January 19, under the slogan "United in Climate Action Towards COP28".

Organised by Masdar, a company dedicated to issues on Sustainable Development, the meeting will be attended by world leaders linked to public policies and investors, who will discuss and seek solutions to the challenges of the energy sector.

On the sidelines of the event, a Green Hydrogen Summit is scheduled to take place for the first time, focused on the process of decarbonisation of industries and the environment.

Masdar's annual Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy platform forum will also be held, giving women a voice in the debate.

Organisers expect to welcome some 30,000 visitors from the energy and environment fields, which is expected to feature some 800 exhibitors from 40 countries and 250 speakers.

Diplomatic representation in UAE

Angola opened a diplomatic representation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2004, through a consulate-general, which became an Embassy four years later.

Angola and the UAE are members of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and have signed two agreements.

The two countries cooperate, among others, in the areas of oil, gas and agriculture.
