Luanda – The holding of a national conference on protecting children's rights and combating domestic violence was analyzed on Wednesday in Luanda by the Vice-president of MPLA, Luísa Damião, and the Secretary-general of the Council of Christian Churches of Angola (CICA), Deolinda Teca Dorca.
Speaking to the press, the religious leader said that the conference would take place from 20 to 23 February, with a particular focus on the situation of underprivileged children, which in her view is worsening across the country.
Deolinda Teca Dorca said that she also expressed concern regarding prices of basic basket products which tend to increase despite the reduction in VAT from 14 to 7%.
The religious leader revealed that she received guarantees that the prices of the products will reduce soon taking in account all the measures the government is taking to change the situation.
In the same day, Luísa Damião received the administrator of the Agostinho Neto´s Foundation, Amarildo da Conceição who made her aware of the international project to create university courses around the world.
Amarildo da Conceição told journalists that the courses are aimed to make known the life and works of Agostinho, the first President of Angola.
On the other hand, the chairperson of the Women's Centre of National Radio Station of Angola (RNA), Emília Cakongo, who was also granted audience by the MPLA Vice-president, said she had expressed solidarity and support for the government's policies on the empowerment of women and the promotion of gender equality.
Emília Cakomgo said that she was joining the broad advocacy work to ensure that women occupy their true place and that they also have the same opportunities as men and child protection. JFS/VIC/MRA/DOJ
