Manuel Fernandes elected CASA-CE leader Luanda - Politician Manuel Fernandes was elected new president of the Broad Coalition for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), on Tuesday in Luanda, replacing André Mendes de Carvalho. The decision was confirmed by the spokeswoman for the coalition, Cesinanda Xavier, at the end of a meeting of the CASA-CE Electoral College that closed today. "President Manuel Fernandes passed with three votes in favour and two abstentions," said the spokeswoman, who pointed out that the new leader's main challenge was to reorganise the coalition, with a view to the local and general elections. In brief statements to the press, Manuel Fernandes pledged to make the coalition founded by Abel Chivukuvuku, in April 2012, more dynamic and closer to the electorate. The former president of CASA-CE, André Mendes de Carvalho, made the post available last Friday following a resignation from four of the six political parties supporting the coalition. Four parties, with the exception of the BD and PADDA-AP, ratified the resignation of André Mendes de Carvalho, who led the coalition for almost two years. CASA-CE members are the Partido Nacional de Salvação de Angola (PNSA), Partido de Aliança Livre de Maioria Angolana (PALMA), Partido Pacífico Angolano (PPA), Partido de Apoio para a Democracia e Desenvolvimento de Angola - Aliança Patriótica (PADDA-AP), Partido Democrático para o Progresso e Aliança Nacional de Angola (PDP-ANA) and Bloco Democrático (BD). Manuel Fernandes is the third president of CASA-CE.
